From Internet Meme to On-Chain Asset: ButtCoin's 127% Weekly Surge

ButtCoin在本周实现惊人涨幅,价格攀升至0.026美元,市值突破2600万美元,成为当前加密市场中唯一实现翻倍增长的主要代币,在主流资产普遍停滞的背景下独树一帜。

From Forum Jest to Blockchain Token: A Decade-Long Evolution

The term 'ButtCoin' originated in 2011 on early cryptocurrency forums, later gaining traction on Something Awful as a satirical critique of Bitcoin’s libertarian ideology. It migrated to Reddit’s r/ButtCoin, where it evolved into a long-running archive documenting exchange collapses and blockchain failures. Pre-dating Dogecoin by years, it became a cultural symbol among crypto skeptics. The token’s branding—featuring the iconic 'next Bitcoin' slogan—was inspired by a 2013 YouTube video by James D. McMurray, which parodied Bitcoin’s complexity through visual gags, including a rotated Bitcoin logo resembling a buttocks.

Launched anonymously on the Pump.fun platform for Solana on January 30, 2025, the token saw its original creator sell out within seconds of deployment. The meme’s originator later acknowledged this version as the only one he endorsed. On its debut day, the token experienced a sharp spike in value, briefly surpassing today’s 26 million USD market cap before settling down.

Satire Transformed into Tradable Value

ButtCoin explicitly rejects any functional utility. Its entire value proposition stems from community engagement and the decades-old irony embedded in crypto culture. The r/ButtCoin subreddit coined the phrase 'digital upswing' as an inside joke, tracking crypto events since 2011; the community now boasts nearly 200,000 members. This token reinterprets that legacy, transforming a longstanding meme into a liquid, tradable asset.

While Bitcoin and other major cryptocurrencies showed minimal price movement this week, ButtCoin’s percentage gain far outpaced them. After more than a decade of mocking the idea of 'digital upswings,' the token itself has become the very phenomenon it once ridiculed.
